July 2, 2011 ... 324km, 6h by Greyhound, beautiful British Columbia to Alberta wild Rose Country

Calgary
home of the
Calgary Stampede

Now Im here! Calgary the door to the East, where the Rockies end and the Prairie starts.
Calgary is not the catital of Alberta even if its the biggest city in the Country of wild roses.
In the 19th century Calgary became a post of the North-West Mountain Police- James McLeod was one of the most important Colonels.

First impressions of the City.
After 6hours in the Greyhound I felt really weird to get back into a really crowded area again. And actually I didnt like it!
I was impressed ... the "nothing" of the Prairie and then out of the sudden this hugh buildings along the 9th Ave. On some places you can see down the Avenues having the Skyscrapers on both sides feeling like in a corridor or tunnel with the light shining at the end.

So see and feel a little bit more of the city and how she lives I drove downtown and walked around... like tourists do.
I visited the Stampede grounds before the "hole thing" started, watched them practice and prepair, enjoyed the music on the grounds- what felt like Disney World and visited Fort Calgary, laying down in the gras at Bow and Elbow riverside.
City of contrasts!

Even if I dont want to live in Calgary for ever I like to see the different faces the city has.
Next to all the skyscratchers you can find these old buildings, small and built of stone.
Also the Stampede grounds. Home for thousand of workers during the Stampede, the grounds have their own spirit.
And Im really excited to become a part of it during the next ten days!
Yeha!!!!
